I performed a diagnostic service call on an air conditioner. Upon arrival customer stated AC unit was not cooling his home, checked the furnace, furnace is operating normally. Checked outside condenser, found condenser fan motor was not running. Checked capacitor, capacitor tested bad - 0MFD out of 50 and 0MFD out of 3MFD for the fan side. I also found the fan motor was completely bad and locked up and was not spinning pulling very high amps. Diagnosed fan motor to be bad as well. Compared cost to repair the unit versus to the age - recommended replacing the AC rather than repairing.

I arrived on site to perform an inspection on a Trane air conditioning unit. During the inspection I found that the unit's capacitor terminal had melted and fused together, making it impossible for the unit to work. I informed the customer of the cost of replacing the terminal, and the customer opted to replace the system entirely. The unit was not operational at the time of departure.
